Kill the AMT, then Simplify U.S. Tax Code
The AMT, created in 1969, was designed to prevent "rich" people — those making $ 200,000 a year or more — from using tax loopholes to avoid paying any tax at all. Over the years, and despite warnings that the tax would begin sucking in not-so-rich taxpayers as inflation raised their incomes, Congress kept the tax.
