Losing some respect for...

Russ Feingold and John McCain. Russ Feingold for his shameless motion to censure President Bush. John McCain for his shameful thumb-sucking display at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

Both conducted political stunts in the last couple of days, and both came off looking like fools. Leaders do not perform political stunts. Political hacks do and do so very often.

McCain and Feingold - while frontrunners for their respective party's presidential nominations in 2008 - are acting like fringe candidates. If they want to be the candidate for president that "marches to the beat of a different drummer," how about trying this for a change: come up with novel ideas concerning health care, social security, immigration/border control, taxation reform, and most importantly fighting the War on Terror.

Why is McCain's endorsement of Bush a) thumbsucking, or b) embarrassing?

That conference and straw poll were conducted by hardline GOPers. Those people are not McCain's base, although they do control the primaries, especially in the South.

Frist, the winner of the poll, will never be President.
