Hurricane Simulation Predicted 61,290 Deaths

In a hurricane simulation ("Hurricane Pam"), with conditions eerily similar to that which occurred during Hurricane Katrina, researchers concluded that the hurricane would result in 61,000+ deaths, and 380,000+ injuries and illnesses.

Right now, it is looking like New Orleans eluded that frightening scenario, with initial estimates of 10,000 deaths already being called exaggerated. One of their major concerns were the fear of thousands trapped in attics, succumbing to the water or the heat. This concern has been alleviated somewhat, with rescuers finding many damaged roofs where residents chopped through with axes, broke upper story windows, that look liked they were caused by individuals busting out.

Thank God.
